Factor VIII-Related Antigen Detects Phenotypic Change of Sinusoidal to Vascular Endothelium in Hepatic Fibrosis of Elderly Cadavers
In advanced stages of hepatic fibrosis, the liver sinusoidal endothelium transforms to vascular endothelium with accompanying expression of factor VIII-related antigen (FVIIIRAg), a phenotypic marker of vascular endothelial cells. Liver fibrosis has been shown to be associated with aging and was found to be prevalent in elderly cadavers. Using immunohistochemistry, we studied FVIIIRAg expressio...
متن کاملLocalization of factor-VIII-related antigen in human vascular subendothelium.
Factor-VIII-related antigen has previously been shown to be synthesized by vascular endothelial cells. Using both an immunofluorescent staining technique and electron microscopy, we have demonstrated the presence of factor-VIII-related antigen in human vascular subendothelium. This finding may have implications in the mechanism of platelet adhesion to deendothelialized blood vessel surfaces.

Factor VIII related antigen, an endothelial cell product, was markedly raised in systemic necrotising arteritis, reflecting disease activity, but was not raised in active cutaneous vasculitis. In rheumatoid arthritis high levels were only found in systemic vasculitis or Felty's syndrome, but in other connective tissue diseases increased levels were more frequently detected and usually related t...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical localisation of factor VIII-related antigen in Hodgkin's disease.
A series of 45 lymph nodes involved by Hodgkin's disease have been examined by means of the unlabelled antibody peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method for the demonstration of factor VIII-related antigen (F VIII R Ag). In addition, five lymph nodes showing reactive follicular hyperplasia were studied. In the specimens of nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's disease, many blood vessels were present, as ...
